The city
is waking up

The development of playgrounds is partly due to the advocacy of organizations such as the National Highway Protective Society, which aimed to “protect cars from children.” Until the 20th century, children mainly played in the streets. As traffic increased, this became dangerous, and playgrounds were created to guide children to safer areas for play.
What would happen if streets became playgrounds again? Would we play ball all along Karl-Marx-Straße, or maybe hide in the parking garage at the Arcaden? Could we slide directly from a window onto the street, or roam around as fictional characters?
